Tourist's car detonated in London

LONDON, June 14 (UPI) -- A tourist visiting London said his broken-down car was blown up by anti-terrorist officers while he was sightseeing in the city.

Nima Hosseini Razi, an MBA student at the University of Wales, said his Ford Mondeo broke down Wednesday morning while he was driving around London and he left it in Storey's Gate, near the House of Commons, with a note explaining his predicament, the London Evening Standard reported Thursday.

"Dear Sir or Madam, this car is broken. I am just waiting for the AA to arrive. Please do not fine! Thank you, yours sincerely," the note read.

However, when police discovered the abandoned car while he was sightseeing on foot they evacuated the area and carried out a controlled demolition on the vehicle, which they had deemed to be suspicious.

Razi said he was issued a ticket for illegal parking before the remains of the car were towed away.

"We can confirm there was a suspect vehicle at Stories Gate at 10:20 a.m. on Wednesday and a controlled explosion took place and the incident was subsequently deemed as non-suspicious," a Scotland Yard spokesman said.
