President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has vowed to ?wage legal battle? against people who she says are involved in using the media ?for personal gains to wrongfully accuse and malign others.?
The Liberian leader?s assertion was contained in remarks she made last Friday, March 16, 2012, when she spoke at a ceremony marking the commissioning of cabinet ministers, at her Foreign Ministry office, on Capitol Hill, Monrovia.
Hear President Johnson-Sirleaf: ?We must also wage legal battle against those who for personal gains use the media to wrongfully accuse and maliciously malign others.?
She stated that those engaged in such act have gone to the point of assassinating the character of some of Liberia?s development partners, adding: ?It has gone to the point of assassinating the character of those who partner with us in our development effort.?
She disclosed: ?A case in point is when people ruined the long fought and maintained reputation of someone by accusing them wrongfully, by getting people for small sums of money to lie on somebody; something that does damage beyond repair, we are going to go after them too.?
The Liberian leader, who fell short of disclosing the names of those she accused of such act, pointed out that: ?We know some of you who also participate in paying young people to be able to go and say things on the air and thereby bring under question those who have worked hard.?
?I want you to know that I know who you are,? she among others added.
